Look Fabulous Every Day!

Over the past few months, I have been focusing on improving my wire wrapping techniques, purchasing higher quality gemstones, and basically giving Snowflake Designs Jewelry a serious upgrade. I no longer use plated metals or glass beads in any of the designs. In the past year, I feel that I've really crossed the line from nice beaded jewelry to upscale gemstone creations.
I'm really proud of where the Snowflake Designs brand is right now.

But truth be told, my audience has narrowed. My new and improved designs simply don't match everyone's style and budget. I began to miss creating simple little designs that I personally feel comfortable wearing daily-- to work, to the grocery store, whatever.

So, a little over a month ago I decided to create a second line of jewelry. A completely distinct brand with it's own style and identity. Jewelry to be worn any day, any where.

Simple Adornments is the name of my second Etsy shop. So far, the response has been encouraging and I continue to add new designs every week.

Teal Earrings

Apple Earrings

Here are some of the characteristics that make Simple Adornments unique:
  • I use only sterling silver in the designs. Although more affordable and accessible than my Snowflake Designs jewelry line, it is still of excellent quality.
  • While I do use some gemstones in these designs, they are primarily composed of quality glass beads.
  • All pieces are oxidized to a deep gunmetal finish to give them an edgy, urban feel.
  • I wire wrap each piece with care, so that it will be lasting and durable.
Please take the time to check it out and offer any suggestions you may have for improvement.

Bracelets for Spring!!!

Bracelet season is finally here!

After months of hiding beneath sweaters and long sleeves, wrists are anxious to peek out and steal the show!

Bracelets have long been my favorite jewelry item. I love to look down and see some colorful gems twinkling back at me. Unlike necklaces or earrings which I can't see and enjoy once I have them on, a bracelet reminds me of its presence throughout the day. (And that's a big plus for a gemstone addict like myself!)

In the world of handmade jewelry bracelets tend to get stuck on the back burner, and truly special pieces seem to be hard to come by. Thankfully, there some great artists on Etsy who are filling the need for fabulous, luxurious bracelets. So I wanted to feature a few of my favorites:

As for me, I've determined to focus extra attention on my line of bracelets for my Spring Collection. Here's a glimpse of what's new in my shop:

Wednesday, March 3, 2010

It's been a while since I've done a giveaway on my blog or in my Etsy shop, so I just couldn't resist doing something special in March.

My favorite jewelry look is to combine simple earrings with a bold statement necklace and a great bracelet. (My next post will be all about bracelets!) So as much as I love making beautiful intricate wire wrapped earrings with lots of sparkling gemstones, I must admit that this is not the style earring I wear everyday.

So I created these very simple, modern, classic earrings and named them Marguerite; which means "pearl". They're created in a unique curly shape which really stands out.

And since I'm feeling generous, I've decided to share them with the world- for free!
With every purchase of $50 or more in my Etsy store during the month of March, I will send a free pair of Marguerite earrings. (With a limit of one free pair per customer.)

Choosing the Perfect Earrings

Earrings are important accessories! Have you ever considered the shape of your face when choosing the right earrings for you? Consider these guidelines:

If you have a round face (like me) you may want to avoid round hoops or other earrings with patterns consisting of circular or ball shapes. These can have the effect of making your face look even rounder. On the other hand, long slender shaped earrings can elongate the face and make it appear more angular.

Oval faces are well balanced and versatile. A person with this face shape has many options when it comes to earrings. Be bold, be creative. Likely, you can wear styles that many of the rest of us cannot!

A square, angular face with a strong jawline and sharp features can be truly stunning. A great way to accent this trait is to balance it with rounded feminine earrings, such as the ones you see here. Avoid angular styles, or ones with a length that ends at the jawline, as these can make your face seem more square than it is.

If your face is oblong (longer than it is wide) look for broad earrings that will help to make your face appear wider. Chandelier styles will be a perfect choice, but beware of any that are too long.

A heart-shaped face is wider at the forehead and cheekbones, but with a small chin. This face shape is naturally very cute and feminine. Teardrop earrings and chandeliers are a great choice, but you may also look for something with an urban or rugged feel, to balance your naturally occurring cuteness.

Garnet For January

I've introduced three new pieces to my winter jewelry collection featuring January's birthstone, Garnet.

The CABERNET Earrings are detailed with wire wrapping along the sterling silver frame and topped with a cluster of garnet gemstone chips. At the bottom hangs a very beautiful, highly faceted onion briolette of garnet in the deepest shade of blackish red. These earrings have a great flirty swing.

The SMOLDER Bracelet was inspired by a beautiful quote from an unlikely source (visit the listing to read it!) which compares love to an undying fire. How romantic! So I created this lovely color combination to tell the tale of true love's endurance. I think it would make a perfectly romantic gift.

The bracelet consists of a handmade gemstone chain detailed with a wire wrapped flourish and a beautiful briolette of rutilated quartz suspended from the extension chain.

The coordinating SMOLDER Pendant features a cluster of the same gems and beads (labradorite, garnet, and jet black crystal) falling from a snake-like wire work formation and culminating in a rutilated quartz briolette.
